Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) is a 2-year professional undergraduate degree that prepares students to become qualified teachers for Classes 6 to 12. Mandated by NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education), it is the most important qualification for teaching in government secondary and senior secondary schools across India.

Graduation: Must have a Bachelor's degree (BA / BSc / BCom / BCA / BBA or any equivalent) from a UGC-recognized university.
Minimum Marks: 50% aggregate marks in graduation for General/OBC category candidates.
Reserved Categories: SC / ST candidates require a minimum of 45% marks in graduation.
Teaching Subject: The subjects studied in graduation determine the subjects you can teach (e.g., if you studied Physics in graduation, you can teach Physics).
Post-Graduate: Students with a Master's degree are also eligible and may get credit exemptions in some universities.
Mode: B.Ed must be done in REGULAR mode only. Distance/correspondence B.Ed is not valid for government teaching jobs as per NCTE 2017 norms.

No. As per NCTE regulations updated in 2017, B.Ed done through distance or correspondence mode is NOT valid for government school teaching jobs. After B.Ed, you are eligible for: CTET (Paper II) for Classes 6-8, State TET for secondary level, TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) recruitment, PGT (Post Graduate Teacher) with PG degree, KVS TGT/PGT, NVS TGT, Army School (AWES) teacher recruitment, and various state education department recruitments.
