Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) is a 2-year professional diploma that trains candidates to become primary and upper primary school teachers for Classes 1 to 8. It is recognized by NCTE and is mandatory for teaching in government schools at the primary level under the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009.
Formerly called BTC (Basic Training Certificate) in Uttar Pradesh, D.El.Ed is the standardized national name. After completion, candidates become eligible for CTET Paper I, State TET, and Primary Teacher (PRT) government recruitment. 12th Pass (Intermediate): Must have passed Class 12 from a recognized board (CBSE / State Board / ICSE or equivalent).
Minimum Marks: 50% aggregate marks in Class 12 for General/OBC category candidates.
Reserved Categories: SC / ST candidates require a minimum of 45% marks in Class 12.
Stream: Any stream is accepted — Arts, Science, Commerce or Vocational. No specific subject restriction.
Age Limit: Minimum 17–18 years. Upper age limit is typically 35 years (varies by state). Relaxation for reserved categories.
Graduates welcome: Even graduation-holders or post-graduates can do D.El.Ed if they wish to teach at primary level.

Yes! D.El.Ed is specifically designed for students who have just passed Class 12 (Intermediate). You need a minimum of 50% marks in 12th from any recognized board in any stream (Arts, Science, Commerce). It is one of the fastest routes to becoming a government school teacher.
